At Curo, each renovation and restoration project goes far beyond a simple refurbishment. Buildings have a history, a soul, and our job is to carefully rewrite that story, adapting it to modern needs while preserving its historical and cultural value. When we talk about restoring homes in Portugal, the goal is to breathe new life into spaces that already have their own identity, making them more functional, comfortable, and sustainable.
What is home renovation and refurbishment?
Refurbishment involves an extensive renovation process in buildings that may be in poor conditions or outdated. It’s an opportunity to improve the structure, functionality and the aesthetics of a property, while always preserving its historical character. Restoring homes is particularly important in Portugal, where many family houses are passed down through generations, carrying with them numerous stories and precious memories.

At Curo, we take a personalised approach that respects heritage. Every project is designed to fit the lifestyle of our clients, while preserving as much authenticity as possible. Successful projects by Curo: Casa Braz and Casa da Celeste.
Casa Braz: transforming spaces
Casa Braz, located in the historic heart of Águeda, is a perfect example of how restoration can rejuvenate a space and give it new life. The building, which once operated as a family-run fruit shop, has been passed down through generations and has now been transformed into a new commercial venture, with residential units on the upper floors.
In this project, it was essential to retain the original façade, respecting the memory and legacy of both the building and the family. However, the interior intervention introduced a contemporary approach, adapting to the requirements of a modern and healthy construction. The result is a shop that blends tradition and innovation, making it a highlight in the city of Águeda. See the project here
Casa da Celeste: preserving family memories
Casa da Celeste is an example of how restoration can keep a family's legacy alive while adapting to the demands of modern living. This project came with a challenge: to transform a very old house into a contemporary dwelling, respecting the memories that reside and have resided within it.
The young couple who contacted us wanted a home where they could raise their two children while maintaining a connection with the past. The kitchen, filled with childhood memories, became the heart of the home, creating a seamless connection between the kitchen, dining room, and living room. Outside, the dilapidated structures were transformed into leisure areas, featuring a garden where the children can now play, adding a touch of nature and functionality to the project.
