With the arrival of spring, the desire to bring the beauty of nature indoors becomes even stronger. And what better way to do so than by using plants? As an architect, I always seek ways to integrate natural elements into interior decoration and landscaping projects, therefore indoors plants are the perfect choice. In this article, I want to showcase some options of plants and flowers that can be used both indoor and outdoor gardens, bringing not only aesthetic beauty but also benefits and well-being for its residents.
Benefits of plants at home
Before diving into plant suggestions, it's important to highlight the benefits they bring to indoor environments. Besides beautifying spaces, plants help improve air quality by absorbing pollutants and releasing oxygen. They also contribute to stress reduction, increased productivity, and even better sleep quality. Therefore, by incorporating plants into your home, you're not just decorating the space but also creating a healthier and more pleasant environment to live in.
Indoor Plants:
Fern:
With its lush and delicate leaves, the fern is a classic choice for interiors. This plant prefers environments with humidity and indirect light, making it ideal for bathrooms or spaces with little natural light.
Succulents:
Perfect for those seeking practicality, succulents are easy to care for and add a touch of color and texture to indoor spaces. They adapt well to different light conditions and are ideal for placement in small decorative pots. (At CURO, we're fans of succulents and have several scattered throughout the studio).
Peace Lily:
In addition to its beautiful white flowers, the Peace Lily is known for its air-purifying properties, making it an excellent choice for bedrooms or living rooms. This plant prefers locations with diffused light and regular watering. In our studio, we love this plant; we call it the darling of CURO because it needs attention every day.
Begonia:
With its vibrant flowers and colorful leaves, the begonia is a great option to bring color and life to your projects, both for indoor and outdoor environments. It adapts well to all spaces and thrives in shade and partial shade, but never direct sunlight.
Outdoor garden plants
Pansy:
It is suitable for pots, planters, and flower beds. Certainly, it is one of the most popular spring flowers due to its long flowering period and low maintenance. It adapts to direct sunlight and partial shade. It can withstand light frost and will appreciate watering every two or three days during flowering.
Tulip:
A true symbol of spring, tulips are known for their cup-shaped flowers in a variety of colors. They bring a touch of elegance and sophistication to outdoor gardens, but are delicate and last only a short time, around 10 days.
Lavender:
In addition to its wonderful fragrance, lavender is also appreciated for its insect-repelling properties. It's perfect for creating fragrant borders in gardens or for cultivation in pots.
Chrysanthemums:
Available in a wide variety of colours and forms, chrysanthemums are ideal for adding color and texture to spring gardens. They bloom abundantly, with late and long flowering even into the autumn months.
Camellias:
It is a slow-growing plant that, depending on the variety, can reach several meters in height. Camellias are evergreen, meaning their leaves remain throughout the year, even during the dry season. Another highlight of this plant is its winter flowering (a process that extends into the spring months).
